Recently, I spent four weeks learning the foundational skills of coaching on The Anatomy Live Online. I learned all the concepts that I had been reading about in Graydin’s handbooks, but I also learnt other stuff that I never really knew about coaching.

As one of Graydin’s Coaching Schools, Rugby has embraced coaching as a key part of their curriculum and we loved to hear—in Justin Muston’s words—how Rugby’s core educational philosophies have been infused and fused with coaching.

In Part One, we looked at the Forms of Help Spectrum. Though there is great intelligence here, it becomes even more interesting when combined with the Connection Hierarchy.

Over the last seven years of teaching coaching to educators, we’ve learned that choosing how best to help another does not always come easy. With too little time and so much to do, help can often look like a one-size-fits-all approach consisting of advising and telling.

Every school, organisation, teacher and school leader experiences challenges when they learn and embed coaching. One of the biggest challenges we recently identified is focusing on the small stuff.

Facilitating is an art form. It can feel easy one day and challenging the next. After more than 15+ years of delivering courses and workshops both online and in-person, there are still times when being a facilitator is just plain difficult.
