Coach yourself over the holidays

The holidays are a perfect time to use your coaching skills on yourself! Coaching is a set of skills as much as it’s a way of being, so turn up your Me-Listening, meet yourself where you are and ask really Effective Questions this holiday season.

Here are two of our favourite coaching inspired holiday activities for you to enjoy.

1. Coach Yourself with a New Year’s Fulfilment Wheel

Design a New Year’s Fulfilment Wheel to inspire clarity and the potential for change in 2023. Draw a circle on a piece of paper, divide it into eight pieces and then choose eight areas of your life you’d love to improve in the coming year.

Take a long pause and daydream. Consider one category at a time. Imagine what a 10/10 in fulfilment would be like in one year’s time (i.e., December 2023). For example, if your career was a 10/10 in December 2023, what would that look like? If your health was a 10/10 in December 2023, how would you feel?

Then consider where you are on the scale of zero to 10 right now, today, for each category and fill in the wheel. Once you’re finished filling in the wheel, take a step back and reflect on where you want to focus your efforts.

And finally, create a plan! How will you get from where you are now to where you want to be? Take time to carve out an ideal route.

2. Take a ‘Lens Walk’

The holiday period is destined to not go as planned. The party gets cancelled, you’re snowed in, your cousin shows up later than expected. These are coachable moments that provide an opportunity for you to connect with what’s really important and shift your lens.

So, this holiday, take yourself on a ‘lens walk’ and ask yourself questions like:

  • What values did that situation step on?

  • What's really important to me right now?

  • What's another way of seeing this?

  • What lens will help me feel less stuck?

  • How can I change my perspective?

  • What will I do next?

Invite yourself to shift your lens with each new street you walk down or each turn you make. Consider looking through these people’s lenses at the topic or issue you are facing.

From all of us at Graydin, we wish you a very Happy Holiday and New Year.
